Liberty Baptist Church was organized in July of 1925 by 18 charter members. The Church Covenant and the Statement of Principles were adopted on July 20, 1925. One week later, on July 27, 1925, the members decided that "Liberty" would be the name of the church and be governed by the members. In that same year applications were submitted to join both the American Baptist Association and the Georgia State Association.
In September of 1925 an agreement was made with Mr. J. P. Long in which he donated 1.25 acres on which the church building was erected in 1926 (Deed dated 11/3/25). Before the building, tradition has it that services were held under a brush arbor shelter located on Mr. H. C. Hodges' home place. During these days services were held every fourth Sunday and business conferences on the Saturday before the fourth Sunday. After many gallons of kerosene, the church was wired for electricity in 1948. In the year 1952, the Lord saw fit to bless the church with the ability to expand by 30 feet to accommodate two new Sunday School classrooms. In 1958, the church members voted to go full time. A parsonage was built in 1960 to be occupied by the pastor and his family. Mr. Adrian Long donated the adjacent property in 1970 on which the Social Hall was built. In that same year, the sanctuary was also completely renovated. On January 10, 1971 a special service was held to dedicate the new church building to the glory and service of our Lord! In May of 1974 a tornado struck the parsonage, but by God's grace, the pastor and his family were not seriously hurt. By September 1974 the parsonage had been rebuilt and the pastor and his family moved back into it. In the early 1980's the members were able to remodel and update the kitchen in the Social Hall. In 2006 God blessed the members to be able to replace the old shingled roof with a stronger, longer-lasting metal roof. The old wood framed windows were replaced in 2007 with the current beautiful stained glass. Yes, God has been good to Liberty Missionary Baptist Church!
In the many years that the good Lord has allowed Liberty to thrive in the ever-dying world, it has always been the hope to see souls won for the Lord! No matter how many repairs we have have made, buildings erected, vandalism repaired, tornados overcome, revivals held, business meeting attended, Vacation Bible Schools held, gospel sings enjoyed, or any other church matters attended to, including wonderful Christian fellowship and delicious meals enjoyed by all, it has been for one goal only, and that is see the Kingdom grow!
